2020 Winner
Artist Run Centres
2020 Audain Prize for the Visual Arts
Vancouver: 221A, Access Gallery, Artspeak Gallery, Grunt Gallery, Malaspina Printmakers Society, Or Gallery, Other Sights for Artists’ Projects, UNIT/PITT Society for Art & Critical Awareness, VIVO Media Arts Centre, and Western Front. Kelowna: Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art. Victoria: Open Space Arts Society. All members of the Canadian Association of Artist Run Art Centres, British Columbia Chapter, these twelve organizations add greatly to the vitality of visual arts in the province and the various communities they operate within.
In this exceptional year when these important non-profit organizations are losing revenue from closing their doors, $20,000 was added to the $100,000 Audain Prize for the Visual Arts fund for 2020 so that $10,000 could be awarded to each of these twelve art centres towards operational support. No jury convened this year and the decision to support as many artists as possible was made by the Board of Directors.
